Background

The Office of Public Health Genomics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is leading an assessment of the most important priorities of public health genomics for the next five years. This assessment and the resulting strategic plan will include efforts led by the Genomics Forum of the American Public Health Association, the University of Michigan Center for Public Health and Community Genomics, and the Genetic Alliance.

Wiki - The Future of Public Health Genomics

We encourage all Forum members to provide input to this CDC assessment and strategic plan in two ways:
  1. Find the five questions CDC is asking by going to the government web site: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2011-06-30/pdf/2011-16422.pdf(external link) Submit your answers directly at: http://www.regulations.gov/#%21submitComment;D=CDC-2011-0008-0001(external link)
  2. Join the conversation among Forum members by using this Wiki – posting your own comments and building on other people’s ideas.

Suggestions for your input to the Wiki:
  • Share your vision of the future of public health genomics during the next five years, and how you think that vision can best be achieved?
  • Comment or elaborate on CDC’s five questions (your responses to the questions themselves should be submitted on the government’s web site?).
  • Discuss how the Forum’s 900+ members might collectively influence the future of public health genomics and play a key role in moving forward the priorities to be identified by CDC’s assessment and strategic plan?.

This Wiki, authored by the Forum, will be incorporated in the report being prepared by the Center for Public Health and Community Genomics as input to the CDC’s assessment and strategic plan, and will be used by Forum leadership as a guide to its future activities. Your contributions to the Wiki must be received by August 17 in order to be incorporated in the report. We hope to continue the Wiki after that date to discuss the third above item, relating to the Forum’s future role.
